Utah, Oregon, Washington State Lead This Week’s PAC-12 Rankings

Alabama continues its season-long run atop our system rankings and if not for Clemson’s return to the top four, the SEC would have all three of the top teams.

Oklahoma dropped from second to fifth after continuing to  display concerning, negative trends on defense and Texas dropped from eighth to 19th after its shortcomings were unmasked by LSU.

Kentucky rose four spots but is likely to be downgraded during the week as more information is confirmed about the status of quarterback Terry Wilson.

In the PAC-12:

Stanford continues its enigmatic ways with an embarrassing loss to USC.  The Cardinal dropped from our rankings for the first time in nearly four years.  

Washington fell to 25th after Cal’s surprising upset, while Utah, Oregon, and Washington State continue unchanged as the top three teams in the conference.  

Eighteen months ago, we posed the notion that none of us would know the merits of Arizona State’s hiring Herm Edwards as its head coach until his quarterback, Manny Wilkins, graduated.  Now that Wilkins is gone, Arizona State is posting the most negative trends in the PAC-12 and it is unlikely that our system will predict another win for the Sun Devils until they travel to UCLA on October 27th.   

In the beginning, the grand idea of hiring an inactive NFL coach to build an NFL-style program for a college team seemed novel and daring.  After two games and the gaffes of Saturday’s narrow win over Sacramento State, that grand idea is seeming more daffy than daring.  

Our system was 59-14 in predicting winners over the weekend and it now stands 134-24 (85%) on the season.
