The Portland Fighting Shockwave are hosting three tryouts for their 2022 season. The Fighting Shockwave were happy to get back on the field last season after missing out in 2020 due to COVID-19. Now, they want you to join them for their 2022 season. The Fighting Shockwave were formed back in 2002, and they play in the Women Football Alliance (WFA), the largest women’s football league globally, with over 60 teams throughout the USA and Canada. They do not get paid; they play football for the passion and being part of a team. They have to rely on volunteers and constantly hitting the pavement on their own to get their name out there. A common misconception about women’s football is they played in lingerie. However, the Fighting Shockwave do not play in lingerie; they play in full uniforms and pads just like the men do. They also play with NCAA rules. This past season, the Fighting Shockwave were also on the news four times and in various newspapers.
Any women who are 18 or older are welcome to try out for Portland’s oldest all-women tackle football team. The tryout dates are Saturday, November 13th, December 4th, and December 18th at The Salvation Army Moore Street – Chiang Memorial Field. (5325 N Williams Ave, Portland, OR 97217) from 10 am to Noon. Each participant will receive a free t-shirt. For more information about the tryout and how to pre-register, please check out their website at https://www.portlandfightingshockwave.com/. You do not need any previous experiences, just a readiness to learn, want a willingness to work hard, and a desire to be part of a team. The Fighting Shockwave ask any participants to bring gloves, a mask, workout clothes, and water. Any woman is welcome regardless of race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, or sexual identity.
