College Football Playoffs Are Set With Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma In

Ohio State, Clemson, and LSU continue 1-2-3 in our system’s pre-bowl rankings.  Each is 13-0 and significantly ahead of #4 Oklahoma (12-1), which moved up one notch after an expected win over #20 Baylor (11-2) and Utah’s unexpected 37-15 humiliation at the hands of Oregon (11-2).

Oregon moved up to sixth while Utah fell to 10th, each with an 11-2 record.

As a result of Oregon’s win, we expect that all of our top four will be named into the College Football Playoff.

The Index was 8-2 in predicting conference championships and now stands at 648-196 (77%) for the season. Our system’s poor showing in the Oregon-Utah prediction was redeemed to some extent when Memphis (12-1) defeated Cincinnati (10-3), 29-24.

(We predicted 33-24) and Wisconsin (10-3) came much closer to Ohio State than it had a few weeks earlier.  We predicted 30-21. Ohio State won 34-21.)

Only the Army-Navy game is on the docket this week and our Index is projecting Navy (9-2) as a 34-24 favorite over the Cadets (5-7).

Later this week, we will have predictions for all bowl games involving FBS teams.
