Even if you can’t get on a Hood to Coast relay team, you can still run some solid races put on by the Hood to Coast Team. Hood to Coast offers 6 other races throughout the year in the Portland area – and you will not regret signing up for any one of them.
Hippie Chick – May 12th
The Hippie Chick race is held on Mother’s Day, and it’s all about women. Finishers even receive a necklace instead of a finisher medal. This is a race that’s on my list for next year.
Hippie Chick is held in Hillsboro, starting at the Ron Tonkin Field. It’s an out and back featuring live music, scenic flat course, and pancakes and mimosas at the finish line. What more could an active mom want on her special day?
Hippie Chick offers a quarter marathon, 15k, and a half marathon.
Helvetia – June 9th
Love a race with hamburgers and beer at the finish line? This is the race for you. Helvetia also starts and ends at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, so you know the scenery will be gorgeous.
This race features a 10k, 15k, half marathon, and a 25-mile bike race. Something for everyone.
Red, White, and Blues – June 30th
Feel like celebrating Fourth of July a few days early with a beautiful run and a big party? Sign up for Red, White, and Blues.
This race runs past the Willamette and the Tualatin Rivers, so you know the views will motivate. The half marathon route has some incline in the middle, but most of the races are flat and fast.
You can do the 10k, 15k, or the half marathon.
Crawfish Crawl – August 4th
If you like to run at dusk – try the Crawfish Crawl. It’s a twilight run at the Tualatin Crawfish Festival. You can choose to do a 5k or a 4-person relay. Each relay member runs a 2-mile loop, twice.
Pints to Pasta – September 23rd
This race occurs in gorgeous Hood River, Oregon. Talk about some stunning scenery! And who says you should only carb-load at the beginning of a race? Refuel at the finish line with beer and noodles.
Pints to Pasta has a 10k and a half marathon option.
Turkey Trot – November 22nd
I participated in the Turkey Trot Relay in November of 2016. It was so much fun! It is a must-run race. You can either run a 5k or as a 4-person relay (same idea as the Crawfish Crawl).
The Turkey Trot is held at Portland International Raceway. That means you get to run on the actual racetrack – so cool! Not only that, but the track is decorated with holiday lights. It is a really fun way to kick off the holiday season.
Hood to Coast has been organizing races since the 1980’s – they know what they are doing. Their races are fun, you don’t have to worry about anything but running, and they have some amazing swag!
