The Open Championship Is Back! – Quiz

Can you believe it’s almost been a year since Jordan Spieth made that 48-foot put to get an eagle at the 15th? With that stroke he pulled ahead of Matt Kuchar who he was tied with, went on to hold his nerve over the next three holes and claim Open victory at Royal Birkdale. With the win he didn’t just win $1.8 million in prize money but wrote himself into the Open Championship history books.

This year, for the 8th time, The Open will take place at the spectacular Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland on their famous par 71 course. The last time the Open was at Carnoustie was in 2007 and that was won by two-time winner Padraig Harrington.

The year in golf has been a bit of a rollercoaster with nobody really commanding a consistent place at the top of the rankings. At the time of writing Dustin Thomas of the USA is top of the pile in the official PGA rankings with fellow American Justin Thomas just behind him in second and Justin Rose of England sitting in third. The majority of the fans around the course will undoubtedly be British and that might well give Rose a bit of a boost, but probably not enough.

Whilst Justin Rose will fancy his chances on British soil with the home backing, The Open odds from Betfair have him second favourite at 14/1 behind Dustin Jonson at 11/1. With golf being a sport that very rarely goes to the pre-tournament favourite some of the other interesting picks are Rory McIlroy at 18/1, Jordan Speith at 20/1 and if you fancy a real gamble, Tiger Woods at 28/1.

So with The Open just around the corner we thought you might want to wet your appetite with a quiz based around the history of the tournament. This might not be for the less experienced golf fans out there, for example do you know who lost to Stewart Cink in a play-off game back in 2009? If you don’t know it’s probably best you leave this one. Having tried it ourselves and struggled we worked out any score over 5/8 is a really good result.

Let us know how you get on.
