Georgia’s solid win over previous top-ten Notre Dame was enough to push the Bulldogs past LSU and Oklahoma and into our third place behind Alabama and Clemson in our Week 5 national rankings.
Wisconsin made the biggest jump, from 25th to 14th, following a convincing win over playoff pretender Michigan.
Despite keeping its season perfect at 4-0, Florida fell from seventh to 10th because of negative metrics in our system.
In the PAC-12 . . .
Oregon’s Ducks bore their way to a 21-6 win over Stanford to now rule the PAC-12, replacing Utah, which won the ground game 247-13 but still managed to lose the scoreboard to unranked USC 30-23.
Washington is second only to the Ducks and only because the Ducks have played stronger competition. The Huskies have sharp up-trends and show significant evidence that defensive units have come together sooner than expected.
Washington State‘s 130-point game against UCLA was entertaining, but even in losing, the Cougars managed to stay in our national rankings, which means all of the ranked teams from the PAC-12 come from the North Division.
California is 4-0 and ranked by most national experts but not ranked in our system. Despite a fabulous defense, negative metrics elsewhere point to only a moderate future for the Bears.
Oregon State is displaying a handful of up-trends and the Beavers have an exciting opportunity this weekend as they host faltering Stanford. Both teams are 1-3 and are ranked at the bottom of the PAC-12 North.
USC is ranked 26th nationally and is now our leader in the PAC-12 South, two spots ahead of Utah. Arizona State, Colorado, Arizona, and UCLA follow at some distance.
Our system was 47-11 in predicting games last weekend and now stands 236-48 (83%).
