It is widely known that the New York Giants are taking a hard, long look at Justin Herbert. But the Giants have won a few games and are likely to be at the edge of a top-ten pick. So will the star QB declare for the draft to enter against what many consider to be a weak QB class or will he stick around in Eugene for another year? If so, the next Oregon Ducks star could be Justin Herbert … again.
Elijah Blades, ATH
At 6-foot-three and 170 pounds, Elijah Blades is a fast and rangy cornerback. The 4-Star (Scoop Duck has him at 5-Stars) rated ballhawk is the No. 1 ranked JUCO CB and he is now a hard commit to Oregon. He’s had offers from, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and many more.
He’s a physical corner who could also add ‘Black-Mamba-like’ highlight reel clips to special
teams. He as the speed and shiftiness to cut through the defense when returning punts and kickoffs and doesn’t shy away from big hits in the open field while playing defense.
He’ll probably need to put on a few pounds of muscle, but Elijah Blade will add some much-needed physicality and man-coverage ability to the Ducks’ secondary. He has the talent to be a breakout star and create an immediate impact for Oregon Football.
Bryan Addison, ATH
Addison has enrolled with Oregon. The 6-foot-five wideout is rated at as a .9552 4-Star prospect and was the nations NO. 3 athlete. UCLA wanted him badly but he chose the Quack Pack —sorry Chip. The two-way player has great potential as a safety as well as at WR and he’s been described as an athlete with a high ceiling. His senior stats were phenomenal. Forty-four tackles and five INTs on defense along with forty-six receptions and nine TDs on offense.
Other than OG, Penei Sewell, Addison is the highest rated Oregon recruit of 2018. Penei Sewell might just end up being the best player on the Ducks offense over the next couple of years, but unfortunately, the big guys up front who literally shape the plays, are never the ‘Stars’.
Jamal Elliot, RB
Another 4-Star athlete who committed back in 2017 is fully enrolled and ready to rock at Autzen. Elliot has deceptive quickness and great patience for a young running back. He is able to read the field in front of him and either wait for openings or create them by breaking tackles and making defenders miss.
With Tony Brooks-James leaving, he’ll be able to compete for touches against Darrian Felix and Travis Dye.
Tyler Shough, QB
Tyler Shough sat behind Justin Herbert this season, but the prototypical 6-foot-five, 205-pound QB has a lot going for him. He was rated the No. 2 player in Arizona by ESPN and the No. 1 player in the state of Arizona by 247Sports as well as the No. 6 Pro-style QB prospect for the 2018 class.
If Herbert leaves for the draft, could Tyler Shough breakthrough as Oregon’s next superstar during his sophomore year? The Talent is definitely there and it seems like if anyone would get the nod over the dual-threat, Braxton Burmeister, it would be Shough. He finished his final year in high school with 3,071 yards and 30 touchdowns on just 5 interceptions.
It will be interesting to see who breaks out in 2019 and 2020. But the who the next Ducks star is could hinge upon whether or not Justin Herbert leaves an opening at QB.
