A number of former NBA players have tried to pick up the mic and split some rhymes. Allen Iverson gave it a shot. Kobe Bryant tried and failed miserably. Somehow Shaq went platinum. Platinum! Safe to say nobody has been able to put bars together better than Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard.
As a rookie, Lillard said “I want to be in movies, I want to rap, I want to do everything,” after his NBA debut. He’s definitely making his voice known in the music industry.
Rapping under the moniker Dame D.O.L.L.A. — which stands for “Different on Levels the Lord Allows” — the Oakland native will release his second studio album on the October 6th titled “CONFIRMED”. We get a taste of his latest project on Friday when he drops the single “Run It Up” featuring Lil Wayne. The 27-year-old is also dropping his signature shoes, the Adidas Dame 4s, the exact same day.
For those who didn’t know…
In 2015, Lillard started releasing single tracks on his Soundcloud page. He also went on the popular morning show, “Swag in the Morning,” and delivered a hell of a freestyle session that grabbed everyone’s attention. The following year Lillard came out with his first album called, “The Letter O”. It featured guest appearances from major music figures, including Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Raphael Saadiq and Jamie Foxx.
Watch out, Dame D.O.L.L.A. might be of part the XXL Magazine’s annual rap freshman class next year.
