Former Oregon Ducks Win Super Bowl As New England Pulls Off Greatest Comeback In Super Bowl History

The previous record for largest comeback in Super Bowl history was ten points. The New England Patriots broke that record Sunday night as they pulled off an improbable comeback victory, after trailing by 25 points in the third quarter. The Patriots would go on to beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime. Two former Oregon Duck football players, LeGarrette Blount and Patrick Chung, were on the winning Patriots team that completed the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.

Blount had 31 yards on 11 carries along with a lost fumble. Blount didn’t have a big game but did have an impact despite a limited amount of touches. The Patriots didn’t get to run the ball as much after they went into halftime losing 21-3.

Chung had five total tackles, four of which were solo tackles. He also had two passes defended. The New England defense had the task of defending MVP, Matt Ryan and the high powered Atlanta offense.  The Patriots only gave up one touchdown in the second half to help Tom Brady pull off an unbelievable comeback.

Both players won their second Super Bowl. They previously won with New England in 2015.

It’s an impressive mark for two players who had to prove themselves going into the NFL.

Blount, who just finished his seventh pro season, had 18 touchdowns, 299 carries and 1,161 yards in the regular season. He played an important role on offense as he picked up 67 first downs for the Patriots this season as he has become known as a hard nose running back that picks up yards after contact.

Chung who has spent seven of his first eight seasons with the Patriots plays strong safety. He recorded 52 tackles, assisting on 39 other tackles, one sack and one interception in the regular season.

Both players played together back at Oregon in the 2008 season. Respectively they were key players on both sides of the ball when they played for the Ducks.

Blount was seen after the game telling Bill Belichick and Tom Brady that they were the greatest of all time.

“It’s an amazing feeling. Obviously we didn’t play our best game in the first half.” Blount said after the Super Bowl, according to “We had to come back and regroup after halftime and come out here and play our best half of football, to put ourselves in a position to possibly win this game and we did that.”

In what will go down as one of the greatest games in NFL history, two former Oregon Ducks players have made their mark as two-time Super Bowl champions.
